A fictional gardening brand that turns surplus seeds and materials from a Galician company into a children’s gardening kit and a charitable gesture: everything raised is donated to a reforestation cause after the fires in Galicia.

Context

Novasilvasolidaria was born in the summer of 2025, after the forest fires in Galicia, as a response to the need for environmental awareness. Horteca, the seed company it is based on, is a fictional brand created for the project: it has no physical shop and is known in local stores, but not by the end consumer.

02

Challenge

Create an educational and playful product that encourages values of sustainability and reforestation, and that also serves as a means of charitable fundraising. The communication challenge was to find a place in a market with many eco-friendly proposals on social media and to compete with large e-commerce platforms.

03

Process

Research. Analysis of similar initiatives (gardening kits, educational toys, sustainable packaging), trends in design aimed at young audiences and communication strategies for charitable causes. Moodboards of colour, typography and illustration, and a review of sustainable materials such as recycled cardboard and biodegradable pots.

Concept. The narrative revolves around “planting hope”, a small gesture with a positive impact on the forests of Galicia. The visual language combines simple geometric shapes with smiling faces on natural elements.

Decisions and discards. Novasilvasolidaria is not conceived as a toy, but as a conscious charitable gesture, with decorative, artistic and craft value.

Materialisation. Study of cardboard box formats, design of the pot in 3D with Blender and finish tests.

Solution

The kit includes:

  • Illustrated box in recycled cardboard.
  • Ceramic pot, more in keeping with the brand’s philosophy.
  • Selected seeds of native plants.
  • Leaflet with instructions, curiosities and space to record progress, plant calendar, stickers and a small reusable water mister.

I also developed the brand identity, the logo, the palette, the kit photo shoot and a landing page in Figma with a purchase section and social media integration.

Plan objectives

Fictional objectives set in the final degree project to size the strategy: 200 monthly sales in the first six months, 2,000 monthly website visits and 200 unique customers in the first year. They are not measured results.

Conclusion

Novasilvasolidaria was a project that allowed me to move beyond strict graphic design and into product design. It gave me creative freedom to illustrate within a contemporary framework, as the fires in Ourense were.
